  @ 50,000 miles I started having hard starts on my 2014 Toyota Camry. On 02/02/2018 I stopped by Roundtree Moore Toyota for diagnostics and an estimate. Once the car was driven into the shop, it was mere minutes before the service writer was back with a quote of nearly $700.00 dollars to replace a faulty purge valve. The speed with which the mechanic had made the diagnosis led me to believe the part was likely easily accessible. This, in conjunction with a quick google search turning up the valve @ $27 dollars delivered, was enough to make me think twice about the repair. I asked the gentleman to give me a moment to think about it, in hopes of giving him a chance to reconsider the numbers. When he did not, I paid their $100 diagnostics fee and declined the repair.
  
  I ordered the $27 dollar valve, and it was in my mailbox three days later. As I had suspected, the valve was easily accessible, right on top of the engine, held on by ONE Phillips head screw and a finger tight hose clamp. Install took MAYBE two minutes on my time.
  
  What's important to understand here, is that I was being quoted several hundred dollars in labor for two minutes work. I understand these guys need to make a living, but this practice falls nothing short of face to face deceit. I don't know if it crosses the border into criminality, but it's must be close.
